India vs England 2025
Smriti Mandhana was recovering from knee injury at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru during 2017. As she joined crowds at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium for an Indian Premier League game, her mother asked when such large audiences and such praise for women’s sport would return – something Smriti had long taken for granted in an age when empty stands, patchy TV coverage, and occasional brief media mention were the norm for female sports players. Smriti dismissed such thoughts as mere fantasy.
However, changes have already begun to show. What once seemed a fringe sport with limited interest has now entered mainstream consciousness thanks to an array of factors driving its expansion.
Beginning at the 2017 Women’s World Cup, which attracted record crowds and television audiences. Furthermore, for the first time ever it was broadcast entirely live; added with social media broadcasts and WPL participation meant more people than ever before were watching, talking about, tweeting and feeling proud of India team’s efforts; in doing so they helped break down stereotypes associated with women’s sports as a result of these players.
Central contracts and equal match fees have also facilitated this change, enabling more women than ever before to train full-time, helping lift standards and run-rates while providing them with time for nutrition, training, fitness and overall performance enhancement. But perhaps the key driving force in all this has been BCCI, who have demonstrated their support of women’s cricket by making no secret of their desire to promote it publicly.
While old barriers, such as pay disparities and opportunities for leadership roles, still exist for women’s baseball, momentum is clearly building within the women’s game. Over the next decade will tell if today’s progress can continue into future success stories; one thing is certain though: women in blue will remain.
India vs England ODIs
India secured their victory over England 2-1 at Chester-le-Street after an exciting match dominated by Harmanpreet Kaur who scored 162 off 82 balls, becoming their seventh ODI century and second highest against them. She was supported by Emma Lamb who hit 68 as they combined to put on 162 for the third wicket partnership.
England’s fielding was atrocious as they repeatedly mishandled balls. In the end it came down to one crucial error by Sciver-Brunt when she gloved a sweep by Kaur towards mid off and was just too early on the shot; Kaur took full advantage of taking an easy catch at mid off – an extremely costly wicket loss as England were looking for an equal record total of 319 runs.
Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal’s unbeaten stand of 137 put India into an early lead against England ODI cricketers, and was their highest ever partnership ever in women’s cricket ODIs overall. For the first time ever in women’s ODI history they both scored over 100 runs during one ODI and took India into a commanding position against them.
In the second match, which saw England trying to chase down an target of 288 runs within 35 overs against Indian spinners and batsmen from India attempting to chase it, Smriti sent India reeling by running out three batsmen as England struggled against Indian spinners to score runs and were dismissed for just 185.
India, playing against England for three ODIs in this series, claimed an emphatic five-wicket win to seal it with one game to spare and claim top place in the ICC Women’s Championship table. Lord’s is hosting Thursday’s final ODI, where only four teams will qualify for semi-finals and India will have the chance to cement its position by facing New Zealand and Bangladesh before moving forward into phase two of competition.
India vs England T20Is
The India women’s cricket team is India’s national women’s cricket team and an official member of the International Cricket Council with Test, One Day International (ODI), and Twenty20 International (T20I) status. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) oversees its administration and management.
Recent success from women’s cricket is testament to their dominance; as an example they are the only team with three World Cup victories and four ODI championships under their belts, two Asian Cup crowns, three T20I wins, five ICC Trophy crowns and two Champions Trophy trophies are just a few accolades they boast.
2025 saw India win their inaugural T20I series against England with an emphatic 2-1 triumph. Smriti Mandhana led with an elegant maiden ton as they posted 167/7 in 20 overs – becoming Mithali Raj’s record by more than one year! All-rounders Jemimah Rodrigues and Harmanpreet Kaur also impressed with their bat.
England started their chase off strongly with Sophia Dunkley and Danni Wyatt-Hodge joining forces to post a 66-run stand during the powerplay overs. Unfortunately, both players were dismissed quickly thereafter before Deepti Sharma sent back Wyatt-Hodge for 56, giving India some relief in the game.
With just six balls remaining, England were still on course for an unlikely consolation win when Shree Charani delivered her dramatic last-ball wicket of Tammy Beaumont allowing India to seize victory with dramatic flair. The match took place in Indore and attracted over 18,000 fans. It marked a first in women’s T20I cricket history as such a high attendance was recorded outside major cities – demonstrating women’s sport’s rising popularity among spectators and supporters alike.
India vs England Tests
India secured an unforgettable victory against England in their inaugural Women’s T20 International series opener at Lord’s. India now enjoy an unassailable three-1 lead going into three more matches of this four-match tournament series.
Smriti Mandhana displayed her brilliant form with the bat as she hit an impressive 88 off 66 balls with eight boundaries before being caught by Emma Lamb off Nat Sciver-Brunt in the 42nd over. Deepti Sharma supported well, contributing 67 off 51 balls but neither could accelerate in their chase of 241.
England posted 284/6 in 50 overs thanks to Heather Knight’s fine 109 off 86 balls, but India’s spinners proved an ever-present threat throughout. Shree Charani removed Sophie Dunkley and Natalie Sciver-Brunt while Sneh Rana and Deepti Sharma provided economical bowling.
India never found their chase of 300 easy. Losing opener and captain Mithali Raj early only compounded their difficulties further. Amanjot Kaur managed a run-up six for an innings score of 68 from 24 deliveries while also being part of a 95-run stand with Harmanpreet who made her Lord’s debut since World Cup 2025 and posted her half century there.
However, India struggled to meet their target and ultimately fell short by four runs, suffering their worst defeat since 2009 and worst home WC defeat since 2009. They now need to win two out of their remaining three matches against Australia and England before qualifying for the semi-finals at Indore on Monday – starting Wednesday against Brabourne where England play Australia again before facing them both again at London for another ODI match on Saturday to determine who advances into the 2025 ICC Women’s ODI World Cup semis; losers will contest Mumbai bronze medal match on Monday.
